Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work

1. Role of the First Aider:

• Understanding the responsibilities and legalities of being a first aider.
• Managing an emergency and ensuring the safety of the scene and others

2. Assessing Incidents

• Conducting a thorough primary survey.
• Performing a secondary survey to identify further injuries or conditions.

3. Unresponsive Casualty

• Providing CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
• Managing an unconscious casualty, including the recovery position.

4. Choking

• Recognizing and treating choking in adults, children, and infants.

5. Wounds and Bleeding

• Treating minor and severe bleeding.
• Applying bandages and dealing with shock.

6. Minor Injuries

• Managing minor injuries such as cuts, grazes, and bruises.
• Treating burns and scalds.

7. Medical Conditions

Duration

• Typically, a one-day course.

Assessment

• Continuous practical assessment by the instructor and a final written test to ensure understanding and competence.

Certification

• Upon successful completion, participants receive a Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, which is valid for three years.
